Pinewood Derby
A rite of passage for young scouters that begins with a mere chunk of pine. That chunk is whittled, Dremeled, hacked at, and painstakingly painted. The derby portion comes in when finally, wheels are attached and the masterpiece is ready to race.
The anxious cars wait patiently and take a sideways glance at each other, trying to size up the competition. Some have waited days for this moment, while others are fresh off the assembly line with portions of their paint still trying to dry.

Treats are a must and this year I was in charge of them (I am the Wolf leader)
Big Wheel ice cream sandwiches won first place for easy, tasty and kid friendly (aka not messy)!!
The races were exciting, the scouts cheered for their cars, but in the end there could only be one 1st place winner. And that was not Jace. However his best friend Brett won the title and Jace celebrated with him. So after three years of creating cars, Jace's run is over. He was never lucky enough to go home with 1st place but his cars sure did look good rolling down the track.
This year his car got the award for most unique. The idea behind his design was that of a vintage race car. I think it turned out looking great and loved the Lego driver he put together with its little goggles.

The Lego driver is AWESOME! I never would have thought of something like that. Zach's last derby was back in September. So sad. But in 2 years we get to do it all over again!
