July 17-19, 2015
When your favorite artist isn't making a stop in your city, you plan a road trip. We chose to travel to Salt Lake for Morrissey's show because things can get a little chaotic at his California shows, plus we hadn't been to Salt Lake in years and the concert was being held at a quaint little venue. We drove up Friday, shopped, ate, and checked out the city. The concert was on Saturday; we spent the morning sleeping in, hitting record stores, and eating lunch, then we went back to our hotel and got ready and went and waited in line for the show. General Admission stinks because if you want a good close spot you have to put in the time! Luckily the The Depot, where the concert was being held, was downtown and part of a giant mall, so we took turns waiting in line. Once we got into the venue and got our spot, about 2 people from the front, we were stuck there because we didn't want to lose the space we waited so long to get. I think doors opened around 7pm and we stood in our coveted spot for about two hours before Morrissey finally came on stage. The waiting was brutal but so worth it once the concert started. As usual Morrissey put on a great show. Here's what we heard:
Setlist:
Suedehead / Alma Matters / Staircase At The University / Ganglord / Speedway / World Peace Is None Of Your Business / Kiss Me A Lot / Istanbul / Now My Heart Is Full / Mama Lay Softly On The Riverbed / Will Never Marry / I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris / First Of The Gang To Die / I Will See You In Far-Off Places / The Bullfighter Dies / Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before / What She Said / Meat Is Murder / Everyday Is Like Sunday // The Queen Is Dead
After the concert we met Harold hanging out by a black unmarked bus that was parked at The Depot. He was obviously part of Morrissey's crew because his shirt said so. Turns out he is the driver of Morrissey's bus- so we loitered for awhile, a long while, in hopes that we could just say hello to my love. We did get to see Morrissey walk out to the bus but he didn't come over and say hello. There was only about fifteen people hanging out so he very well could have taken a moment but Harold had warned us that he never socializes (which I know but still had hope). And so it goes, another night being so close yet so far away......
