Disney Day Two

February 23, 2014

Dapper Day at Disneyland......
Definition: dap·per
Adjective: neat and trim in appearance; very spruce and stylish

Remember back in the day when it was paramount to look your best always? Ya, neither do I. Though  this theory has been known to exist in days gone by. Dapper Day at Disneyland reinvents the idea of dressing your best to visit the happiest place on earth.

Dapperday.com explains:
"DAPPER DAY Events at Disney parks celebrate the tradition of stepping out in style, and were partly inspired by the original Disney park designer's illustrations which often featured dapper guests enjoying the park.
These guests appeared dressed for a day of sophisticated entertainment, men in sharp suits, toddlers working two-pieces, and ladies looking like a page from Dior's sketchbook - all as if a visit to Disneyland were on par with a night at the opera. And why shouldn't it be? That's what DAPPER DAY Events at Disney Parks is about, realizing those designer's dreams that, for one day at least, Disney Parks be experienced as the upscale escape that it is, filled with fashionable guests ready for fun.
Interpret this however you like. Our gatherings are neither a strict period recreation of the past nor a costume event (there are many other gatherings for that). Dapper Day Events are meant to showcase you at your best, and all sophisticated fashions from vintage-inspired classics to chic contemporary looks are welcome."

Well we chose to go with the vintage inspired classics (as did most others). Sure we had to get up a bit earlier to get ready and yes it took some preparation to get everyone's outfit put together and of course my hair wasn't cooperating but it was definitely worth it! I wondered at first if the kids would be on board and follow through but they did and were loving all of the compliments and smiles they were receiving all day. There were a lot of people dressed dapperly but there were also plenty of 'regular' folks in their dowdy jeans and matching family t-shirts. I could sense the wonder, the curiosity of these folks and it was a grand feeling, like we were part of the inner circle and had a special secret. We rode rides, ate churros, took a picture with Minnie, and enjoyed a great day. We pushed ourselves until the park closed then crashed on the tram........
