Das Tier in Caliente

Jason and his nephew Taylor bought this Class 11 off road VW Bug which they named Das Tier (German for The Beast). They knew Class 11 lacked prestige and notoriety but it made up for all that in character. They entered it into the S.N.O.R.E Caliente 250 and worked hard to get it race ready. I have to admit I wasn't exactly thrilled to spend my weekend in a one horse town cramped with the kids and my parents in an RV, but it actually turned out to be a great weekend. The race was on Saturday- Jason drove the first 50 mile loop with Taylor as the co-driver. Then they made their pit stop they changed it up and Taylor drove with their friend Mike, that was helping them out, on the second loop. When they pulled into pit after the second loop it was obvious something was wrong with the car. They had a broken front shock mount. They called it and the race was finished for Das Tier. That night we camped out RV style at Kershaw-Ryan State Park. The next morning we before heading home we checked out the rock formations at Cathedral Gorge State Park. It actually turned out to be a fun weekend- off road vehicles, RV's, nature, no cell service to get sucked into, trains etc....
