A Week called "CRAZY"

LAST WEEK
was one of those weeks when everything tumbles into one big ball of crazy. There is fun, sad, scary and new all rolled up like a tangled ball of yarn.

It all started early Monday morning as we saw Jace off on his big 5th grade G.A.T.E adventure to Sea Camp. He was excited, while I was a bit nervous.....
I mean who better than I to keep a secure eye on him while he explores the vast creature filled ocean....
I know.
He returned home Wednesday night in one piece with irreplaceable memories.

Then we sold our car on Tuesday.... MY car
I may have shed a tear.
But it was all my idea and I'm happy to be free of a car payment.
If I had to compare my BMW to a celebrity I would say Pierce Brosnan-
sexy, distinguished, smooth, and refined
I will miss it.

Saturday morning Jason took a flight to California and drove our new 2004 Land Rover Discovery home-
We had been looking for a few months... we wanted white, it had to have the jumper seats in the back, and it had to be the right price.
Jason can tell you about his adventure: arriving at the Burbank airport, taking a cab which seemed to just be an ordinary car, and his time at Wells Fargo in a not so great neighborhood.

It is definitely a different driving experience- a girl can get spoiled you know
If I were to compare the Land Rover to a celebrity I would say Bear Grylls-
rugged, adventurous, daring, and gritty.
I will get used to it. No payment makes me smile.

Then there was Friday-
Spent ALL day at the hospital. I had an angiogram done to peek at my heart, which is why I didn't accompany Jason to California. I have had valvioplasty(balloon procedure) done three times in the past. Same idea. Still do not enjoy it. Laying with your leg straight for six hours-
little uncomfortable.
never so happy to bend.
Haven't got official results yet, but pretty much aorta valve replacement is on the table. Used to be one day I would have it..... looks like it is now which day will I have it. Not fun, but necessary.

Anyway that was my crazy week- lots rolled up into one.

I'm Going to....

DISNEYLAND
February 3-5, 2012

Few moments in life induce a carefree and frolicsome feeling like a stroll down Main Street USA while indulging guiltlessly on the sweetness of ice cream, can produce. Moments like these pass too quickly and are often far and few between. However this picture captured that joy....

Half of the fun of riding the ride is seeing the picture at the end. So, once again we are up to our silly antics.

Lauren and Grandpa Nelson riding the rails on Thunder Mountain.....

Who's super excited to take a nap, I mean, ride It's a Small World!!

Dinner at El Torito was tasty, these balloon hats sealed the deal...

We braved the swinging gondolas of the Ferris wheel....

my dad WAS NOT a fan..... but he took one for the team
(he would not look down and had a death grip on the seat)

Since it was close to Valentines Day, they had these adorable heart displays...

and as usual, captivating displays of flowers

Jace obviously didn't get the memo on keeping his hands inside the vehicle at all times...

All the boys in blue (i think they planned it) as the Mark Twain gracefully sails by...

And so ends another successful trip to "the happiest place on earth"
but do not fret, we will be back in May! Yay!

Pinewood Derby- the final year......

Pinewood Derby
A rite of passage for young scouters that begins with a mere chunk of pine. That chunk is whittled, Dremeled, hacked at, and painstakingly painted. The derby portion comes in when finally, wheels are attached and the masterpiece is ready to race.

The anxious cars wait patiently and take a sideways glance at each other, trying to size up the competition. Some have waited days for this moment, while others are fresh off the assembly line with portions of their paint still trying to dry.

Jace and Brett find a spot close to the action.

Treats are a must and this year I was in charge of them (I am the Wolf leader)
Big Wheel ice cream sandwiches won first place for easy, tasty and kid friendly (aka not messy)!!

The races were exciting, the scouts cheered for their cars, but in the end there could only be one 1st place winner. And that was not Jace. However his best friend Brett won the title and Jace celebrated with him. So after three years of creating cars, Jace's run is over. He was never lucky enough to go home with 1st place but his cars sure did look good rolling down the track.

This year his car got the award for most unique. The idea behind his design was that of a vintage race car. I think it turned out looking great and loved the Lego driver he put together with its little goggles.

Greetings from the Robb's

Had I actually posted this around Christmas time, I would have likely written something to this effect....

Merry Christmas!!

(groundbreaking.... i know!!)

Christmas 2011

Christmas Eve:

We were on our own tonight, free to celebrate and enjoy the evening. We decided that a movie was the perfect way to spend it. Since we all had to agree, we decided on Tintin. Turned out to be a cute movie with great animation style. Afterwards we had dinner at Pasta Cucina, (in Aliante Station where the theatre is as well), and our meal was quite tasty. The night was growing late and the kids were anxious to open their one gift, so we headed home.

Of all the gifts nestled under the tree, they both surprisingly (not) opened their traditional Christmas Eve pajamas and soon were off to bed where visions of sugarplums most definately danced in their heads!!

Christmas Morning:

Santa was definately here!! Lauren and Jace raced down the stairs to find that their Christmas list had materialized in front of the tree. Lauren was pleased to see a beach cruiser, new clothes and a speaker dock for her itouch among her gifts. Jace awed at his electric scooter, Hero Factory, and Wii games among his gifts.

Christmas fell on a Sunday this year, so after opening gifts, we had to briskly ready ourselves for church at 9am. Our sacrament meeting was filled with the spirit of Christmas as the choir and congregation sang Christmas songs. After, Grandma and Grandpa Robb came by to visit.

Since Christmas was on a Sunday, we didn't have our traditional Nelson family lunch out. Instead we did a progressive lunch, which included some kind of food or drink at each family members home. All together we made six stops!! Our house was first and we served an appetizer of chips, salsa, nacho cheese, mini tacos, taquitos and burritos.

Our final stop was Grandma and Grandpa Nelson's where we all got spoiled!!

On our way home we made one last visit to the Minty & Micah's so the kids could exchange gifts. We chatted with them for a bit, then were homeward bound.

Christmas was a loooong day, but a wonderful one spent with family. My hope is that someday Lauren and Jace will look back fondly on these experiences and that these childhood memories will contribute to their Christmas spirit and joy as adults.

Tis the Season for Bowling....

Friday, December 23,2011

Christmas + bowling.
Who knew that would be the perfect mix for the annual Robb Christmas get together. Everyone has fun and there is no mess to clean up!

There is also a great trophy that goes to the person with the highest score.....
Roger was returning champ, but Lee, Jason and Spencer also wanted the title...

And the winner with a high score of 150.....
(drumroll please)

Jason!!!!!

Which means he gets to display the coveted trophy all year....
